Hey Y'all! My name is Lauren Watkins & I live in Minden, Louisiana. Minden is located in the northern part of the state, west of Ruston and east of Shreveport. I graduated from Louisiana Tech in 2008. After marrying my college sweetheart, Matthew, in 2007, we had 3 wild boys. We have been married for 11 years. Hayden is 9, Cooper is 6 and Taylor is only 1 year old. I enjoy swimming, playing sports with my boys and cooking. We spend most of our time at church and the ballpark. Oh and our family has 1 dog named Izzy, she's the only other girl in the house. : )
I am sooooo excited about starting the 2016-2017 school year at Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy! This is my 1st year teaching at LAVCA and I have big plans for my students. Being raised by a long line of educators has taught me to appreciate the power of knowledge! It's a super power that you can GIVE YOURSELF! My mother was a teacher, grandmother is currently an English professor at Southern Arkansas University and my grandfather taught History for over 35 years. Obviously, I love to learn and I REALLY love to learn history and science because they are essential to every super hero. I believe history the backbone of our society and a fundamental part of being a productive member of society. When armed with the facts about how our government works or our founding fathers, we can reshape a city or empower an entire group of people. While history is the study of the past, science is the study of "how". I'm sure you've asked yourself a million times, how does that work, or where did that come from. Every super hero needs to know how to make toxic slug or what will happen if you throw a bolder off of a 10 story building. These are answers that only science can give you. How COOL is that??
So gear up for an awesome flight with Mrs. Watkins' 4th grade science & history class! You're surely in for an adventure that will sharpen your hero history skills and set you up for a lifetime of science exploration and discovery. Both are key components for being a wonderful super hero so here's your chance to arm yourself.
